Paradise isn’t a place, Its a feeling. The Maldives has always been one of those luxury destinations you only dream of visiting.
The approximate flight time from Sri Lanka to The Maldives is only one hour. To fly there from Australia takes much longer and is far more expensive. Giving this reason we decided it was silly for us not to fly to one of the most beautiful destinations in the world.
We had 2 nights left before we flew home from Sri Lanka back to Perth. When we made up our minds to spend our remaining nights at the Maldives, we had to jump online and book our flights and accommodation straight away as we were leaving the next day. For us first timers, we didn’t realise how many islands make up the Maldives and how spread out they were. Searching through accommodation on Agoda’s website it was hard to decide on a place to stay. We wanted a room on the water with either a pool or a spa within a reasonable price range. We finally found a resort called Sun Siyam Iru Fushi, with beautiful villas over looking the ocean. There were different options with the water villas. The first option were villas on the water that faced the horizon. The second option was the sunset horizon villas that faced the sunset. The last option were the villas that faced the island itself. We decided to book the horizon villa with a Jacuzzi and the all inclusive food package.
Getting to Sun Siyam Iru Fushi Resort
Once we booked our accommodation the resort informed us that once we arrive in Male we then have to get a 45 minute sea plane to the island resort. We were so excited to fly in a sea plane as it was a first time for us. Not knowing the sea plane wasn’t included in the overall price, we had to pay $500 USD each for our return tickets . If you do stay somewhere in the Maldives do your research first and find out what island the resort is on and also how to get there because you might have to pay the amount for a sea plane. Some resorts offer sped boat transfers.
The flight was breathtaking as you fly over the most crystal blue waters and many beautiful islands. The take off and landing was very smooth and if you decide on getting sea plane do it because you won’t be disappointed.
The Island
Once we landed on the island I was blown away by its beauty. Crystal clear water, white sandy beaches, big wooden jetties that are curved out to sea lined with above water villas, I was in heaven! We got chauffeured to our room by our own personal butler in a golf buggy. Driving through the island it was like driving through a jungle. The white sandy roads zig zagged through palm tress and tropical flowers.
Just when we thought it couldn’t get any better we get to our room. The water villa faced out to the horizon and the best thing about the room was the jacuzzi. We just couldn’t wait to get in it. The room was spacious with see through glass floor to view the crystal clear water underneath. The bed was facing out to the ocean with open sliding doors to take in the morning sun. The balcony had 2 sun beds and a ladder that descended down into the water so you could swim from outside your villa. The shower and toilets also had high open windows so you could see into the water below.
Best activities to do at Sun Siyam Iru Fushi resort, Maldives
First thing we wanted to do was to go and explore the island and get some lunch. The Sun Siyam Iru Fushi resort has 14 restaurants and bars. From dining under the stars in the Italian restaurant to the open kitchen of Japanese and seafood Islanders grill there is something for everyone. We ate at a restaurant called Bamboo which served asian cuisine facing the beach. With the all inclusive package it included a breakfast buffet, lunch were we could pick an entrée, main and desert. O we could have a $65 food voucher each to spend on anything on the menu.
There was only a few occasions where we went over our food voucher, however you just pay the remainder at checkout. Breakfast buffet was delicious and there were so much options to choose from. You could choose from different kind of eggs, cooked meat, curries, pho and noodles bar, wide range of pastries, pancakes, waffles, cakes, wide variety of bread, fresh fruit, freshly squeezed juices and even served breakfast champagne.
Our second day we had lunch at the Trio restaurant. Mouth watering food with the flavours of Italy. This Italian restaurant sits out overlooking the ocean lagoon. For Dinner we ate at the buffet located at Iru restaurant. They served different cuisine every night and they were one of the main restaurants on the luxury resort.
Relax swim and tan!
Theres plenty of activities to do on the island. Snorkelling, diving, fishing, water activities, hire canoes, boating and on land activities i.e. yoga, day spas and a gym.
It was free to hire a mask and snorkel which was convent for us because we only had a short amount of time on the Island. We spent most of the day snorkelling around the jetty just below our villa.
There are sa number of snorkelling tours that can be arranged to take you out by boat. We enjoyed snorkelling around under the villas, there were coloured fish and we even seen a big sting ray.
In the after noon just before sunset we would walk down the beach and watch the sunset at one of the beautiful restaurants.
We had an amizing time in the Maldives and would highly recommend to visit at least one in your life. We had such an amazing experience in the short time we were there. We hope this blog helped anyone who is thinking of visiting.
